De ANSI-indeling is de standaardindeling die in de Verenigde Staten en veel andere landen wordt gebruikt, terwijl de ISO-indeling de standaardindeling is die in veel Europese landen wordt gebruikt.

Wat betreft plaatmateriaal zijn de hardheid bij het indrukken en de akoestiek een kwestie van voorkeur. In onze ervaring kunnen zachtere materialen helpen om vingervermoeidheid bij lange typsessies te verminderen, terwijl hardere materialen een responsiever gevoel kunnen geven. De volgorde van plaatmaterialen van zacht naar hard is nylon, polypropyleen, POM, FR4, koolstofvezel, aluminium, koper.
